Translator
Virtual Front Desk can show your stations in many languages. Visitors can switch the station to their own language from the welcome screen, and the texts you write for the station are translated automatically. You can review every translation and change any wording.
To change a station's settings, you need the Owner, Admin or Manager role.
Let visitors choose their language
- In the main menu, click Stations. On the location card, click the three dots next to the station, then click Edit.
- On the Settings tab, under General settings, choose the Default station language. The station shows this language until a visitor picks another one.
- Under Advanced settings, turn on Display translator. Visitors can then switch the station to another language from the welcome screen.
- In Possible languages to display on station, choose the languages visitors can pick.
- Optional: in Choose up to three languages to pin, pick up to three languages to pin for quick access.
- Save the station's settings.
Display translator and Swiss spelling in the station's Advanced settings
Swiss spelling
For a station in Switzerland, turn on Swiss spelling (ss instead of ß). German text on that station then uses "ss" instead of "ß", for example "Schliessen". Your own German wording is shown the same way.
Review and edit the translations
Virtual Front Desk translates the texts you write for a station: the welcome text, the call waiting message, the AI assistant greeting, the button names, the group names and your visitor sign-in forms. The station's built-in screens are translated by Virtual Front Desk and are not listed.
- Open the station and click the Translations tab.
- In Language, choose the language you want to review.
- Each row shows your English text on the left and its translation on the right. Type your own wording in the box to replace the automatic translation.
- Save your changes. The station shows the new wording within a few seconds.
The Translations tab, with each button name and its French translation
Use Search to find a text in English or in the translation. The filters show All texts, only the texts you Edited, or the texts that Need review. A text needs review when its English changed after you edited the translation: you can keep your wording or go back to the automatic translation.
Good to know:
- Group names and sign-in forms are shared. A change to their translation also shows on every other station that uses the same group or form.
- The Translations tab shows the saved texts. If you changed something on another tab of the station, save it first, then translate it.
Write your texts in English
Write your welcome text, button names, groups and sign-in forms in English. Virtual Front Desk translates them into the other languages, and you can adjust any translation in the Translations tab.
Your dashboard language
Each user chooses the language of their own dashboard under Settings > Profile.
